The Riverbank Challenge

A run with a
fun day attached.

Challenge, then reward. Friendly and inclusive. A good day out, not a fast course and not an elite field.

The Riverbank Challenge is one of the region's best-established races, reshaped a few years ago as an accessible chip-timed 10K without losing its character. The route follows the banks of the Ouse, cuts through Hook village and mixes quick running with narrow riverside paths. In 2026, 350 runners lined up on the riverbank and the race sold out.

For 2027 we are making it a whole day. The 10k starts at 11:00. When the runners are in, the kids' fun run takes over, and the event village runs on through the afternoon and into the evening. Hundreds of runners, and the families and friends who come with them, at a new home: Goole Town CC on Carr Lane.

The race is organised by Goole Viking Striders, a volunteer-run community running club, and the surplus goes back into getting people in Goole moving, from couch-to-10k upwards.

The day

Finish strong.
Stay awhile.

When the runners are in, the day is only getting started. The event village runs on through the afternoon and into the evening, and it is free to come in: for runners, families, friends and anyone in Goole who fancies a good day out.
